Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status with his folk-based pop songs many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell new Mexico, but was enthralled by Colorado. He eventually made his way to Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his adopted home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said it was because John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Denver is a symbol of the state for all people. When you encounter people from other countries, like New Zealanders and ask them "I come originally from Colorado" then they react by saying Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads, co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time with folk bands and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff composed the song in the name of Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential after hearing it first. He recorded it just a few days following performing at Washington D.C. before an crowd that was extremely enthusiastic.
